In 2008 several owners from The Virginia Highlanders (then Virginia Baseball Association) and Re-bell Yell leagues decided to have a seven game title series. Each year the respective league champions would fax off against each other in a best of seven game series. That title series will now be known as the Billy Idol Title Series.
Why Billy Idol Title Series? Two reasons. One, the Re-Bell Yell league (National League) was formed when four owners spun off their teams from another league and held a dispersal draft with six new owners. The four “spin-off” owners did so because of some sketchy activity from another owner. That owner’s last name was Bell. When the dust settled the four “spin-off” owners found numerous emails in their email box with the subject heading, Re-Bell. At that point the logical step to take was to call the fledging league, Re-bell Yell. Though it’s pronounced Rebel Yell. And “Rebel Yell” is a pretty darn good song by Billy Idol.
The second reason why it’s called the Billy Idol Title Series is because there are 5 owners who are in both leagues. At some point in time it’s quite possible where one of these owners will a championship in each of the leagues. At that point he’ll have two teams facing off against each other for the Billy Idol Title. In short, he can say that he’ll be “Dancing with myself.” And that is also a pretty darn good song by Billy Idol.
While these titles may not guarantee the winner any “Flesh for Fantasy” (another pretty darn good song by Bill Idol) it’s still only a fantasy title.
