Week 17 League Championship Game – RECAP

The Reckoning 125.90 |  Sloppy Sparrows 186.92

The 2023 View Askew Championship game featured The Reckoning and the Sloppy Sparrows. Actually it mostly featured the Sloppy Sparrows who were anything but Sloppy. Rory should change his team name to The Super Sparrows, or The Stupendous Sparrows, or The Super Duper Sparrows.

The Sloppy Sparrows lead this one from start to finish. The Browns defense set the tone with a solid 13 poinnt showing on Thursday night to take a lead that they would never relinquish. Saturday the Super Sloppy Sparrows picked up the pace with 22+ pts from WR-Brown. Meanwhile The wrecked Reckoning tossed out a measly 3.7 pts from RB-Gibbs.

At that point the die was cast. No lucky Fantasy Football Shirt could save The Reckoning from Fantasy Karma. You just can’t fight her and win. The Sunday games confirmed this as by halftime of the 1pm games The wretched wrecked Reckoning were completely wrecked with less than a 10% chance for a win. The Stupendous Super Duper Soaring  Sloppy Sparrows continued to spew their sloppiness down on The (w)Reckoning with 48+ pts from their QB’s, 58+ pts from their 3 RB’s and an additional 27+ pts from their other two WR’s on top of what WR-St Brown scored Saturday.

In the playoffs The wrecked Reckoning scored, 208.86, 141.20, & 125.90. While The Champion Sloppy Sparrows scored 164.36, 177.92, & 186.92. Notice the two treads? The loser trending down through the playoff weeks while the winner trended up.  That, gentlemen is how you win a championship!

Congratulations Rory! On behalf of The Reckoning organization, I apologize for the lack of competition and making it too easy.

I am waiting for confirmation from Commissioner Sean, but here is how I see the 2024 draft order at this time.

  1. Anal Explosion (2-11,1683.98) or Sleepy Squad (3-11,1744.82)
  2. Anal Explosion (2-11,1683.98) or Sleepy Squad (3-11,1744.82)
  3. No Prevent D (6-8, 1803.42)
  4. Devils Snare (7-7, 1859.40)
  5. Finkle & Einhorn (8-6, 2041.74)
  6. Dinamos (8-6, 2071.78)
  7. FNG (9-5, 2084.65)
  8. Big Daddy (9-5, 2105.56)
  9. The Reckoning (9-5, 2109.88)
  10. Sloppy Sparrows (9-5, 2280.40) *2023 Champion

As I said, this needs to be confirmed by the Commissioners office as well as the lottery results to determine the first two picks.

The 2024 Category Report will be posted prior to the first NFL playoff kickoff.

Week 17 League Championship Game

#2 The Reckoning at #1 Sloppy Sparrows

Season Recap: The two teams squared only once this season in week 5. In that game Sloppy Sparrows steamrolled The Reckoning by a score of 154.06 to 95.64. I don’t know about the Sloppy Sparrows but The Reckoning were without RB-White & QB-Herbert in that game. Also in that game WR-Jefferson missed most of the contest with an injury. Both teams are now 11-5.  Sloppy Sparrows have 2622.68 total pts. The Reckoning have 2459.94 total pts.  Since the playoffs have started, The Reckoning have scored 350.06 points while Sloppy Sparrows has scored 342.28 playoff points.

Just minutes after our 2023 season draft ended Yahoo put out their draft reports. The headline for the Sloppy Sparrows read, “Sloppy Sparrows Soar to the Top with Flawless Draft.”  The essay began that their draft left the rest of us with envy and proved that the Sloppy Sparrows were no birdbrains, assigning them a draft score of A+. Furthermore, it stated they would sweep the season with a 14-0 record.

So why did we even play out the games?

That same Yahoo essay team also claimed that “The Reckoning Wreaks Havoc in Draft, Set to Dominate View Askew Football.” Hmm, which is it? Soar to the top or wreak havoc?  They also claimed that The Reckoning draft left the rest of the league “quaking in their cleats” which I doubt any of you were. The Reckoning was assigned a draft grade just a notch below the Sloppy Sparrows of an A.

While every team suffered through, around, over, under, and in between injuries, The Reckoning are limping into the title game with not so good QB’s.  Who the hell knows what QB-Purdy will do this week after that embarrassingly grinch like performance on Christmas night. The Sloppy Sparrows have without a doubt, the best starting QB combo not just this year but in probably the past 10 years. Hell, toss in their bye weeks QB and the position is probably FF Hall of Fame material. Fortunately for the Sloppy Sparrows, they only suffered a glancing blow of injury to their QB’s. That’s not a fortunate attribute for The Reckoning.

Let’s take a look at a data chart from the PPAA.

TEAML3avgL5avgSeason Avg
The Reckoning163.17156.72153.75
Sloppy Sparrows166.53167.86163.92

The season average includes the previous two playoff games. It didn’t take long for me to see that the Sloppy Sparrows are flying high in the play offs. Take out the opening playoff round W15 points and The Reckoning numbers really look pathetic. These differences are pretty significant and will be difficult to overcome.  That’s the first component in the PPAA.

The second component of the PPAA are current projections. After all, you have to play the games. Look at it this way. The first component looks backward while the second component looks forward. The projection component is a little closer, but still favors the Sloppy Sparrows by an average of 159.06 to 155.10.

Sooooo.

Who wins. I’m finding it very hard to look past the QB position. Who would you rather have starting for you? Hurts & Jackson or Purdy and Sticks? Or Purdy & Stidham? I think the answer is pretty obvious and if Lady Fantasy Karma hadn’t kicked The Reckoning in the throwing hand of QB-Herbert, I’d feel better about The Reckoning’s QB’s being competitive.

Sooooo.

Will the RB/WR positions for The Reckoning overcome the QB lead that the Sloppy Sparrows will have? When you consider that the Sloppy Sparrows hold position ranks QB2, QB3, WR2, RB4, RB7, K1, & DST2(tie). While The Reckoning hold position ranks of QB5, RB3, RB6, RB8, WR7, K2, K5, & DST5. Then I think you have your answer, probably not.

While I WANT The Reckoning to win, I have to admit that the Sloppy Sparrows have a better chance at winning the 2023 championship. I see the final score of 162.08 to 155.33 in favor of the Sloppy Sparrows.

The only wild card unaccounted for is my “Lucky Fantasy Football Shirt” and my “Fantasy Karma is a B*@#%” mug. I’ve worn and drank from them the past two weeks, especially Monday night.

Week 16 Semi-Finals Weekend RECAPP

Jay Division Final-RECAP

#3 Big Daddy 132.74 @ #2 The Reckoning 141.20

I mentioned that I was concerned about each of these teams struggling to score points after both posted 200+ points the week before. My concern was real as it’s pretty difficult to score over 200 in back to back weeks.  As it turns out The Reckoning fell below their season average, their L3 average and their L5 average at 141.2 points. Big Daddy stumbled well below all of their averages and landed at 132.74.  The final score really wasn’t the fault of Big Daddy coaching. Fantasy Karma reared her ugly head spewing injures like lighting bolts down on Big Daddy QB & WR who were predicted to help carry the load.

I will admit that there was some real concern about The Reckoning’s season coming to an end early on Sunday. Three players came through though to turn the odds of winning in favor of The Reckoning. On Monday the pucker factor was turned up to 9 when both QB’s soiled their pants. The cheeks were squeezed even tighter with the end of the SF/BAL game Monday night.

A number of years ago Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez caused all kind of drama when he struggled all season against the Yankee hitters. In a post game comment after yet another loss to the Yankees, he said something like, “What can I say? The Yankees are my Daddy!”  Big Daddy lost to The Reckoning three times this year. So for the 2023 season anyway, The Reckoning is Big Daddy’s Daddy!

Silent Bob Division Final-RECAP

#5 FNG 135.62 at #1 Sloppy Sparrows 177.92

I had a difficult time coming up with the winner of this game because of the uncertain status of key players.  The Sloppy Sparrows were without WR Pittman. He was replaced by WR Ridley who did quite well for the Sloppy Sparrows with 25.80 points making one ask Micheal who?  He was supported and flanked by two other players who scored over 20 points.

FNG lost the QB  by a combined total of 44.02 to 31.14. FNG was let down also by RB Pollard and WR Adams. They still had chances to win though and didn’t play “poorly” as they just about scored where their L3 average has been.  RB Henry and WR Evans tried to will them to victory with 20.38 and 27.60 points respectively.  In the end though it wasn’t enough to overcome five players scoring over 20 points for the Sloppy Sparrows. They didn’t look all that sloppy outscoring their L3 average, L5 average, as well as their season average.

FNG’s season ends with a 2-1 record over the Sloppy Sparrows. While the Sloppy Sparrows move on to playoff a championship.

Week 16 Semi-Finals Weekend

Jay Division Final

#3 Big Daddy @ #2 The Reckoning

Season Recap:  The Reckoning won both in season match ups by a combined score of 293.00 to 249.46. Their most recent match up was two weeks ago in the regular season finale. The Reckoning took care of business defeating Big Daddy by 22.02 points. The win also earned them the Jay Division title for 2023.

This week will be an interesting match up. BOTH teams posted over 200 points last week. Both teams won their games in decisive fashion with a multitude of players scoring over 20 pts, one over 30 pts, & even one over 40 pts.  Had they faced each other last week Big Daddy today would be wrapping presents to put under the tree and helping the Mrs. prep the holiday meal. But that was last week. This week I wonder if either team will be over their euphoria of scoring 200+ points and score enough points to win.

The PPAA shows that Big Daddy holds the edge for the average pts scored in the past 3 weeks as well as the past 5 weeks. The internal numbers inside the PPAA are conflicted. About half of them show Big Daddy winning while the other half show The Reckoning winning. I think a lot will depend on the health of their starting QB’s as well as the health & play of their NFL WRs’ starting QB’s. I WANT The Reckoning to win by a score of 157.76 to 153.09. But I won’t be surprised if Big Daddy scores 158.02 points.

Silent Bob Division Final

#5 FNG at #1 Sloppy Sparrows

Season Recap: FNG beat Sloppy Sparrows in both regular season match ups.  Combined score was 364.68 to 347.54.  Pre Season write up & prediction was not very kind to FNG. The headline at the time stated, “FNG Fumbles in the Draft: Projected to Finish 58 With a D+ Grade”  Meanwhile Sloppy Sparrows prediction was very rosy. “Sloppy Sparrows Soar to the Top with Flawless Draft”

Yet a 2 – 0 FNG record over the Sloppy Sparrows later here we are.  Let’s look at the numbers. Past 3 weeks Sloppy Sparrows: 163.61 | FNG: 134.17. Past 5 weeks Sloppy Sparrows: 163.87 | FNG: 152.11. Season average Sloppy Sparrows 174.63 | FNG 157.26. Both teams scored over 180 pts three times this season. FNG scored over 200 in W13. So who wins?

I don’t know.

I don’t know if injured season long starting players from each team will play.  So here is my best guess. Sloppy Sparrows wins the game.  Final score will be 160.93 to 148.29.

Week 15 2023 Recap

Jay Division

#4 Dinamos @ #3 Big Daddy- Recap

Big Daddy moves onto the quarterfinals by defeating the Dinamos 204.64to 95.28. The tone for this one was set Thursday night when the Dinamos defense managed to squeak out ONE WHOLE POINT! It was pretty much all downhill from there as the Dinamos now go off to finish their holiday gift shopping. BIG DADDY had four players with over 20 points and one with over 40. Toss in a defense that scored 18 points and I don’t see how BIG DADDY doesn’t become BIGGER DADDY next week against their next victim, I mean opponent.

#6 Finkle & Einhorn @ #2 The Reckoning – Recap

Recall that these two teams met just 2 weeks ago where Finkle & Einhorn blanketed a beatdown on The Reckoning.  The Reckoning remembered that and were focused from start to finish in this one returning the favor with a decisive win by a score of 208.86 to 131.96.  Finkle & Einhorn didn’t play horribly but did have to play without league leader and WR1 Tyreek Hill. I hear that the league is investigating an anonymous tip that prior to Sundays game Hill was visited by DeVito’s agent on behalf of The Reckoning.  But the injury factor was a bookend to the F&E season who lost a future hall of fame QB in week 1 and then couldn’t play Hill in their lineup W15.  The Reckoning is a force to be reckoned with. Sorry I’ve been waiting over a year to use that line. They had FIVE players score over 20 points, one of which was a defense. And had one player score over 35 points. Buoyed by their success this weekend management unveiled a new team logo.

I have to give credit where it’s due. The inspiration for the team name comes from Cleaveland’s own Michael Stanley. I encourage you to give it a listen. It’s from the “In a Very Short Time” album that was released in 2016.

#8 No Prevent D @ #5 FNG – Recap

Oh my. What could have been. I’m not sure what happened but I know that when you leave players in your starting lineup who are designated as “out” you are guaranteed

Z -E-R-O points.  This time of the year folks are busy but honestly I sincerely hope that everything is ok with Matt.  The PPAA predicted a close score and it was with FNG winning 117.12 to 116.56. Each team had one player score over 20 points but NPD could not overcome the two zeros. FNG moves on to the semi finals in what will I’m sure be tougher to win.

#7 Devils Snare @ #1 Sloppy Sparrows – Recap

The Sloppy Sparrows methodically took care of business by a score of 164.36 to 127.12. If you followed the game all weekend you might have thought that Devils Snare would snare a W away from the Sloppy Sparrows. However the Sloppy Sparrows had players who played late Sunday, Sunday night and Monday. Once they took the lead it was never relinquished. DS had one player with over 20 points while SS had three. More concerning for the Sparrows was losing WR11 Pittman to a concussion. As of now it is unknown if he will be available for next weeks semi-final match up against FNG.  You’ve seen me say it before and I’ll say it again, Fantasy Karma is a bitch!

Sometimes that mug holds coffee, sometimes, bourbon, and sometimes wine both in celebration as well as drowning sorrow.

Look for W16 predictions by kickoff on Thursday.

Week 15

It is the time of the year where I know all of you are eagerly waiting to read how the playoffs will turn out. You are looking to see if your team will win or lose.  I’m about to press the “return” button on my PPAA to see the outcomes.  What is PPAA? You ask. It stands for Playoff Predictions Algorithm Application. The PPAA is not patented. Does not promise any kind of accuracy. Does not factor in concussions, weather, kickoff time, or if I’ve had one glass of wine or three when predicting the scores.

NOTE: The #seeds in front of team names are from the most points standings.

#4 Dinamos @ #3 Big Daddy

Season Recap: Big Daddy won both games by a combined score of 283.02 to 259.24. The Dinamos finished the season 8-6 to Big Daddy’s 9-5. Average scores for the two are separated by 2.19 points.

The last 3 games played Big Daddy has averaged 150.08 points to the Dinamos 131.89. This game should be a blow out win for Big Daddy right?  But maybe not. Earlier this season Dinamos went on a modest 3 game winning streak and even posted over 200 points two weeks in a row.  The first half of the season Big Daddy alternated wins and losses every other week. They’ve gone 6-1 in the second half losing only the last game of the season. Big Daddy could win by close margin with a score of 145.42 to 142.85.  Don’t despair Dinamos, two of the metrics inside the PPAA show you winning this one.

#6 Finkle & Einhorn @ #2 The Reckoning

Season Recap:  The two teams split the series 1-1. Finkle & Einhorn holds the scoring edge though, 301.06 to 277.72.

Disaster struck early for Finkle & Einhorn when 6th round draft pick and certain future NFL Hall of Fame Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season on, like the second play from scrimmage, to an achilles tendon injury. The Reckoning has the edge in average points scored per game by a 4.86 margin. The Reckoning also came in second place in most points scored. Three weeks ago these two met in a W13 match up. They were two teams heading in opposite directions. At the time The Reckoning was firing on all cylinders scoring over 181 points and on a 3 game winning streak. The Reckoning suffered a beat down losing by over 55 points. They haven’t yet recovered. F&E has soared and are prepared to face The Reckoning with no fear whatsoever! The Reckoning can only hope that Einhorn & Finkle shows up this weekend. And we all know that hope is not a plan.  F&E moves on by a score of 158.69 to 150.41

Silent Bob Division

#8 No Prevent D @ #5 FNG

Season Recap: FNG holds a 2-0 record with a combined score of 308.26 to 211.82. FNG holds a deciding edge in average points per game with a 20+ pt lead.

The average for the last 3 and for the last 5 games played for No Prevent D are 128.49 and 129.80. Compare those numbers with the season average of 128.82 and you get some idea what FNG needs to do this weekend. For that matter throw a dart at your roster to pick your starters Coach FNG. But hold on!  There is one metric in the PPAA that shows NPD winning this game!  So I think it could be a close one. But I’m a numbers guy, FNG wins by a score of 148.79 to 147.09

#7 Devils Snare @ #1 Sloppy Sparrows

Season Recap: Sloppy Sparrows have a 2-0 lead with a combined score of 314.84 to 292.04. Sloppy Sparrows also won the most points race.

At the beginning of season the Sparrows were the one team that I thought was capable of winning 12 games. How they fell to a 9-5 record has me bewildered and I fear that the rest of us will feel the wrath of the Sloppy Sparrow.  Devils Snare is our defending champ. They managed to win the championship last year with as many starting quarterbacks as I wear in underwear over the course of a month! I think I made some comment how they must have had compromising photos on that wench Fantasy Karma. Fantasy Karma is a bitch, just not to Devils Snare. It will take Fantasy Karma to once again intervene for Devils Snare to win this weekend. Otherwise Sloppy Sparrows win by a score of 161.63 to 144.61
